There’s a lot of information online and offline (heck, even your grandma probably has a tip of two) that you can try to get rid of your spare tire.
In fact, there are so many tips and articles out there that you can easily get confused. Worse, if you try one and find out it doesn’t work for you, you may incorrectly decide that love handle exercises are not worth paying any attention to.
So, to help you in your quest to lose fat off your midsection, read on for some sage advice.
Go with what works for your lifestyle. A specific love handles exercise may sound good but if it requires equipment you don’t have or needing to sign up for membership to a gym that’s far away from where you live, chances are you won’t be able to maintain that fitness routine.
As such, my first tip for you is this: try exercises that you can easily and consistently perform.
Realize that the stomach is made up of various muscle groups. A lot of people focus on their lower belly or abdomen at the start. That’s all well and good but for love handles, you need exercises that also target your obliques.
The best love handles exercises are thus the ones that work you side, lower, upper, and mid stomach muscles.
A few crunches a day; You may have heard of crunches as a great way to bust love handles. What’s great about them is that you can do them right from the comforts of your own home without any need for any fitness equipment.
All you need is your floor or any flat surface and at the very least a big towel to protect your spine.
As you try crunches, be sure you perform various ones (e.g., side crunches, hip lift crunches, etc.) so that you target all your stomach muscles. It’s also important to perform the exercises deliberately.
That is, ensure that it’s your stomach muscles that are doing all the work and not your arms, head or shoulders.
Another great fitness routine to engage in is Pilates. This form of exercise makes use of a persons core section, while at the same time working out various other muscle groups of your body.
For instance, you may be performing a leg exercise but since you’ll be inhaling and exhaling with emphasis on your stomach muscles, you will be exercising your core indirectly.
Here’s a great pushup move you can try at home: lie down on your stomach, keeping your legs straight. Clasp your hands and then push your upper body up as if you’re doing a pushup. Maintain this position for a few seconds before you go back to the starting position.
Good luck with your love handles exercises!
